Folks, This Ain’t Normal

Joel Salatin is a smart, passionate farmer from Virginia whose innovative livestock operation was featured in Michael Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma. He’s now published his own book called Folks, This Ain’t Normal. It’s an incredibly interesting look at the state of industrial agriculture, and it’s effect on our health and culture. His hope with this book is to awaken a thirst for a knowledge about food, farming and sustainability. And he did just that for me.

My brother, Ross, first told me about this book and I knew I had to read it. I was really intrigued by what Salatin wrote. Some of it I’m not so sure about, but his insights about food and his commitment to grass-roots activism is worth your time. So take what you like and leave the rest. I think we just absolutely MUST pay attention to what’s happening with our food. Judgement and ignorance combined can be dangerous.

It’s worth anyone’s while to follow Mark Bittman and Michael Pollan on Facebook and Twitter. We have paid a huge price for convenience.

Yes, I agree. I am a new vegetarian 1 yr and 5 months and I am now transitioning to vegan slowly..lol We need to be knowledgeable about what we eat and how it is processed. So, many ppl are suffering with Diabetes, High Blood pressure and dying earlier today. I support eating meat for those that do and plant based diets for those that do that but please research what is being put into our foods. Knowledge is definetly key.
