Chef Riad Nasr Just Blew My Mind!

Chef Riad Nasr Just Blew My Mind! Posted on February 1st, 2013 in Well-Being.

I’m participating in The American Heart Association‘s campaign to promote heart health. Heart disease is the #1 killer of Americans, but there are so many simple steps, healthy habits that can help reduce your risk. So throughout the month, I’ll be encouraging you to join the healthy challenge, and I’ll be providing some tips you can use to help increase your heart’s health. This first tip I learned from Riad Nasr, a very famous chef, and an all around awesome dude who is like my surrogate big brother! (Seriously Google him and familiarize yourself with the amazingness that is Riad). I’ve been trying to schedule a cooking lesson with him, and one day when the planets align and our schedules permit we’ll make it happen, but I had an impromptu run in with the PRO and he offered a tip that I wanted to share.

In order to cut down on the amount of salt you use; first of all taste your food and second use LEMON! It brings out the natural salty flavor.  Did you know that the average American’s daily salt consumption is more than twice the amount recommended by the AHA? So, to reduce your sodium intake and strengthen your heart: stop shakin’ that salt, and start squeezin’ that lemon!

Huh! I learned two things from this video. One: don’t put germy salt shakers on my face. Two: lemons are versatile! Definitely gonna jot that down.

don’t replace the salt with lemon, just make it an additive.

I make my own Alfredo sauce, nutmeg brings it out.

Also, there is this wonderful chicken and veggie recipe made with phyllo dough that I make, if you’re interested just shoot me a line and I’ll get it to you. This should only be eaten like 1x a month though lol

    Hey Tracee,
Thanks for sharing. Girl, I NEVER use salt. I can’t tell you the last time I purchased a box of salt. I know about the lemon on fish as well. I’m ALWAYS reading the labels for sodium esp. in soup? That’s a stroke in a bowl! Instead use a low sodium broth and add some balsamic vinegar. Other fresh citrus are very good flavor enhancers. Keep bringing the tips!!! :)

The real question is, how do you prevent such fabulous lipstick from getting on your teeth? Has this been addressed already?

  • Q

Tracee, being a deaf person may I ask you a question please. Is the write up under your video blog the same thing?
