Things That Make the Heart Sing–That Make you wanna do, be, & SHINE!

Ruby Dee: actress, poet, playwright, screenwriter, journalist and activist. October 27, 1922 – June 11, 2014

I had the honor of meeting Ruby Dee in 2005, when I hosted the Civil Rights Museum’s Freedom Awards. Paul Ruseseabagina, Oprah and Ruby Dee were the honorees.

I want to weep at the thought of that day. I remember wanting to fall to the ground, to kick and scream. I also wanted to shine and sing and fly. Without warning, an understanding emerged in me. I remembered a fuller picture of who I am that I didn’t know I had forgotten. And I am a better person for it. My life changed that day in Memphis.

I wrote a piece about my experience. Below is an excerpt that describes my moments with Ruby Dee.

Tracee Let's Chat 2

Sooo remember when I ran around the super market asking people questions about Thanksgiving? Well I had so much fun, I decided to whip out my microphone and do it again! This time around I went to Abbott Kinney (an adorable little street in Venice) and I asked people a bunch of Christmas and New Years themed questions. And I got a special assist from my wonderful sister, Chudney!! Now… LET’S CHAT!

October Challenge

Welp, the #OctoberChallenge is finally finished!  PHEW!  How did it go for you all!  It was rough, but having come through it, I can definitely say that it was worth it. I did something I have never done before, I feel great and I see the change in my body. There was sweat, there was laughter, there was even some screaming, but the important thing is that I pushed myself and when I wanted to give up! I kept going because I told you all I would.  To memorialize the experience, I’ve put together this fun video. But now I want to know about YOUR #OctoberChallenge!  How did it go? Any insights you gained? Do you hate me now?  I wanna hear all about it!

Tracee Response Qaadir

All right let me explain: the hilarious Qaadir Howard had a dream in which I gave him some serious shade…so much so that he called it FEVER.  Then he made a video documenting said dream, and it was HILARIOUS! So when I discovered the video I HAD to respond.  So I…video bombed him.  It’s like photo bombing, but so much more fun. Thanks to Qaadir for being such a good sport.  And for the record, I definitely don’t hate him lol.

Tracee pt 2

This time I’m talking about the importance of vulnerability. The importance of talking and sharing, and just being open with yourself and others. Stick around for some book recommendations, my advice on dealing with failure, and a host of other things.  Now let’s get heavy (again)…
